Sunday Reset|Basics
I love a good Sunday Reset. Anything to help with the week ahead. Today I decided to do a refresh with a focus on basics.
Around this time of year, I go through my basics (tanks, bras, underwear, socks, pajamas, etc.), cull out the items that are not looking so great, and begin replacing them.
What started out to be a refresh of sorts snowballed from my closet right into the kitchen. Before I knew it, I had several donation bags. I love that! Decluttering for me is addicting. It feels so good to make extra room for better things coming in my life.
Time to get ruthless. And by that I mean ask the hard questions:
Do I use this or is it just taking up space?
Do I love it or is it meh?
Does it really fit me or am I telling myself a story?
Is this working for me right now or causing me needless frustration?
No? Time to let it go and pass it along to someone who will use and love having it.
With a little help from a favorite Parisian Mood playlist I get to work. Still in my pajamas, I pull my messy hair up, grab a cup of Matcha, and I’m ready to go! Some of my best cleaning/organizing is done this way. (I think pajamas are the key.)
Otherwise, I would suggest you grab your most trusted girlfriend (preferably one who will be nice but bluntly honest). That friend who will tell you that she never liked that color on you or that dress makes you look frumpy. That’s her!
Tip: A bottle of your favorite red can help with the sting of the constructive criticism dontcha know.
Out With It: The overstretched elastic bra band that, no matter how you fiddle with it, ain’t coming back.
Put Your Big Girl Panties On: Underwear that we are trying to fit into when it is no longer flattering. Why on earth would we do that to ourselves? Plus, it is just uncomfortable. No Thank You!
Get in the Now: Pants, skirts, and tops that no longer fit. Only wear what fits you right now. Not later or potentially after you lose a few inches. This is where I have to ignore that very practical side of myself and not tell myself a story. Thank you for your service but it’s time for you to go!
Years ago, I used to work in a department store and would have to cover the lingerie specialist every now and again. Oof! Hanging bras and underwear on those fiddly hangers were a nightmare and required the patience of a saint. But there was something about how everything looked and felt when they were neatly coordinated by size and color. That is what I try to go for when reseting my drawers.
Roy G. Biv
A mnemonic we used in the department store when organizing the racks: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
This does not take me long to organize my closet this way. Most of the colors I wear are black, white and a mix of jewel tones.
A Sunday reset well spent. Even though no one else sees the inside of my closet or drawers - I do. And I’m worth the time to make something look and feel beautiful for me, myself and I.
Having only the clothes that fit me and are in good condition makes a difference in how I feel about myself. Even with underwear. It’s a quiet confidence booster that most do not see but I know is there. ;)
Happy Sunday Reset!
